Course overview
This qualification reflects the role of support workers who complete specialised tasks and functions in aged services; either in residential, home or community-based environments. Workers will take responsibility for their own outputs within defined organisation guidelines and maintain quality service delivery through the development, facilitation and review of individualized service planning and delivery. Workers may be required to demonstrate leadership and have limited responsibility for the organisation and the quantity and quality of outputs of others within limited parameters. To achieve this qualification, the candidate must have completed at least 120 hours of work as detailed in the Assessment Requirements of the units of competency.
Be at least 18 years of age and have completed the equivalent of Year 12.
Participate in a course entry interview to determine suitability for the course and student needs.
English language tests such as PTE and TOEFL can be accepted. You are required to provide your results so that we can confirm they are equivalent to IELTS 6.0.
English language competence can also be demonstrated through documented evidence of any of the following:
1. Educated for 5 years in an English-speaking country; or
2. Completed at least 6 months of a Certificate IV level course in an Australian RTO; or
3. successful completion of an English Placement Test

Before commencing work placement, learners are required to provide:

Training and Assessment Information
This course is delivered face-to-face in a classroom-based setting, as well as through structured self-study and in the workplace. All classroom-based training will take place at ACVET’s training facilities.
The timetable for this course will be advised in your Offer Letter and Student Agreement.
You are required to attend classes for 14 hours of classroom training per week and complete structured self-study of 6 hours per week for 40 study weeks (4 terms of 10 weeks each). Holiday breaks are as indicated in your timetable.
Class sessions include a mix of theory and practical activities with a focus on creating a real life workplace.
You will also be required to complete 120 hours of work placement and we will assist you to find a work placement or you can find your own. This placement is to be completed during Weeks 11 of each term You must complete 30 hours of work placement during each block and your trainer and assessor will visit you during this time to discuss any issues concerning the placement or questions you have, as well as to conduct observations for assessment purposes.
In addition to classroom based learning and structured self-study, you will also need to complete approximately 5 hours of additional, unsupervised study per week including research for assessments, completing assessments outside of class/work placement time and general reading.
