Course overview

The Certificate III in Individual Support is a nationally recognised qualification designed for domestic students seeking a career in the Australian aged care, disability, and community services sectors. This course equips learners with the practical skills and theoretical knowledge required to provide person-centred support to individuals who need assistance with daily living, personal care, and maintaining independence.

Students will develop competencies in areas such as effective communication, infection prevention and control, workplace health and safety, and understanding legal and ethical responsibilities within the Australian care sector. The course also focuses on supporting the wellbeing of diverse clients across a range of care settings.

As part of the qualification, students will complete mandatory work placement, providing hands-on experience in real workplace environments under professional supervision. This ensures graduates are job-ready and confident in delivering quality care.

Graduates may pursue roles such as Personal Care Assistant, Disability Support Worker, or Community Care Worker, with strong employment opportunities across Australia’s growing health and community services sector.
Entry Requirements
To enrol in this course, students must meet the following requirements:
Be at least 18 years of age and have completed Year 12 or an equivalent qualification in Australia
Participate in a pre-training review or course entry interview to assess suitability and individual learning needs
Demonstrate adequate English language, literacy, and numeracy (LLN) skills to successfully complete the course

Students must have access to:
A computer or laptop with standard software (e.g. Microsoft Word, PDF reader, and web browser)
Reliable internet access
Basic digital literacy skills to participate in online or blended learning

Additional Requirements (Work Placement)

Prior to commencing work placement, students may be required to provide:
A National Police Check (required for aged care settings)
A valid Working with Children Check (WWCC), if applicable
Evidence of up-to-date vaccinations (e.g. influenza, COVID-19, or other requirements as per workplace and state regulations)
Evidence of physical capability to perform care-related tasks, including manual handling

Training and Assessment Information

Training and Assessment Information

This course is delivered through a blended learning model, combining online learning, face-to-face training sessions, and practical workplace experience. Students will participate in trainer-led classes (either in person or virtual), structured online study, and self-paced learning activities.

Training includes both theoretical knowledge and practical skills aligned with real workplace requirements in the Australian aged care sector. Students are expected to actively engage in all scheduled sessions, complete online coursework, and undertake independent study to support their learning.

As part of this qualification, students are required to complete a minimum of 120 hours of mandatory work placement in an approved aged care setting in Australia. This provides valuable hands-on experience and the opportunity to apply skills in real-world environments. Trainers and assessors will support students during placement and may conduct workplace visits or virtual observations for assessment purposes.

In addition to scheduled training and placement, students are expected to complete independent study, including research, assessment preparation, and general reading.

At the beginning of each unit, trainers and assessors will outline the assessment requirements. Students will have access to learning resources, digital materials, and support services to assist them in successfully completing the course.

What is the application process?
Step 1: Fill out ACVET online application form You can complete the application form online by going on the link above. Please note that you will need the following to submit your application:

- Scanned copy of your passport
- Certified Academic Transcript and qualification from Year 12 or Above (translated into English)
- Resume (if available)

Step 2: Receive and Accept your Offer Letter. Return the signed Offer Letter and Student Agreement to ACVET.

Step 3: Participate in a course interview with one of ACVET’s representatives.

Step 4: Make your initial fees deposit.

Step 5: Complete ACVET English Placement Test (only applicable if valid English proficiency evidence not provided).

Step 6: Receive your Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) Once you have completed all the steps, our team will review your application and then you will receive your Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE).
How much time does it take to process my application?
Once your application has been approved by ACVET’s admissions team, you will receive an Offer Letter detailing your course, tuition fees and all relevant terms and conditions. Before you accept, check all the conditions on your offer letter.

Once you accept your Offer Letter and make initial deposit payment as outlined in your Offer Letter, you will be issued your Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE). Please remember that you will need this Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) document to apply for your student visa.
