Students develop competencies in effective communication, infection prevention and control, workplace health and safety, understanding legal and ethical responsibilities, and supporting the wellbeing of diverse clients. The program also includes practical work placement, allowing students to gain hands-on experience in real care environments under professional supervision, ensuring they are confident and job-ready upon completion. Graduates can pursue roles such as Personal Care Assistant, Disability Support Worker, or Community Care Worker, with strong employment opportunities in the growing healthcare and community services sector.
Before commencing work placement, learners are required to provide:
Be at least 18 years of age and have completed Year 12 or an equivalent qualification in Australia
Participate in a pre-training review or course entry interview to assess suitability and individual support needs
Demonstrate adequate English language, literacy, and numeracy (LLN) skills to complete the course

Basic digital literacy skills to participate in online and blended learning
Additional Requirements (Work Placement)
Prior to commencing work placement, students may be required to provide:
A valid Working with Children Check (WWCC) (if applicable to the placement setting)
A National Police Check (required for working in aged care, disability, or community services)
Evidence of up-to-date vaccinations (e.g. influenza, COVID-19, or others as required by the workplace)
Evidence of physical fitness to perform manual handling tasks, if required

Training and Assessment Information
This course is delivered through a blended learning model, combining online learning, face-to-face training sessions, and practical workplace experience. Training may be conducted at ACVET’s training facilities, via virtual classrooms, and through structured self-paced study.
Students will engage in a combination of theory and practical learning designed to reflect real workplace conditions in the Australian aged care sector. You will be required to attend scheduled sessions, participate in online learning activities, and complete independent study outside of class hours.
As part of this qualification, students must complete a minimum of 120 hours of mandatory work placement in an approved aged care setting in Australia. ACVET may assist in organising a suitable placement; however, students may also source their own. Workplace assessment may include trainer visits or virtual observations to support competency development.
In addition to scheduled training and work placement, students are expected to undertake independent study, including research, completing assessments, and general reading.
